Isaiah said in 53:6, “All of us like sheep have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way.”
This has been true since the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve decided to stray from the Word of God and turn to their way of life. We have paid a high price since that time. We not only make up our own way for living but we have become our own judge. We decide which sin is SIN; we decide who goes to hell or heaven. Has the definition of sin changed? Which sin is the worse? Am I born with the inability to decide what life I live, what decisions I make when it comes to sin, God, and the Bible? Is being a liar a sin? Is fornication or adultery sin? Can I be a homosexual without choice and still be a Christian? Does society, government or church decide who goes to heaven or hell? Are we responsibility for our own choices?
Abraham asks this question in Genesis 18:15, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?” He was questioning God concerning Sodom. He wanted to know if God would punish the just along with the unjust. To be Judge here is to be God and Abraham knows who the Judge of the earth is and will be forever! God will execute judgment and will vindicate, condemn and punish all who have “turned to his own way.” However, it’s important to note that God will judge all peoples of this earth. Solomon said it in Ecclesiastes 3:17, “I said to myself, God will judge both the righteous and the wicked man, for there’s a time for every matter and for every deed.” When God looks down upon us what does He see? The church on one side and sinners on the other? No all God see are the guilty! The day will come when the Judge of all the universe will return and each person will be JUDGED “for every matter and for every deed!”
This was the message of the prophets as well as Jesus and His apostles. Jude preached in 15 and 16, God is coming “to execute JUDGMENT upon all, and to CONVICT all the UNGODLY of all their UNGODLY DEEDS which they have done in an UNGODLY WAY and of all the harsh things which UNGODLY SINNERS have spoken against HIM. These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.”
It’s a sentence of condemnation and reward. On that day God will prove who is wrong. The UNGODLY here are those who are destitute of reverence toward God and by doing they condemn God. The DEEDS are those things done in opposition toward God and His written Law, the Bible. Their WAY actions disrespectful toward God for their own purpose. Which is another way of saying what Isaiah has already predicted, “each of us has turned to our own way.”
The real question is what are the “UNGODLY DEEDS?”
